Prince of Peace Serves Dinner
to Homeless Youth

Home Plate Poster PicOver 2000 of our neighbors in Washington County are homeless youth. Nearly 1400 of them are in the Beaverton School District. At Prince of Peace our vision is to “boldly serve our neighbors in ways that show them Jesus,” so we team up with HomePlate Youth Services (www.homeplateyouth.org). We serve homeless youth a hot dinner and provide access to support resources on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at Merlo Station High School. Please join us in helping our community (and having fun at the same time)! Sign up now for one of the volunteer jobs described on the back of this sheet. (We always pair new volunteers with an experienced volunteer to make it easy and fun to learn how.)

Serve food, mingle, and help clean up

5:30 PM – 8:00 PM on the day of the dinner (9 positions available) This team serves food at Merlo Station High School’s cafeteria, 1841 Southwest Merlo Drive, Beaverton, OR 97006. Eat with the homeless youth who come to dinner and build relationships with them. Help clean up afterwards.

Prepare food in advance

3:00 PM to 5:30 PM on the day of the dinner (2 positions available) Prior to the dinner, this team prepares a simple but hearty meal in Prince of Peace’s well-equipped kitchen so it can be reheated later at the Merlo Station High School cafeteria. One person on this team must have an Oregon food handler’s card, which is easy to get online in advance (see http://public.health.oregon.gov/HEALTHYENVIRONMENTS/FOODSAFETY/Pages/cert.aspx – list of providers at bottom of page.)

Shop for groceries in advance

Typically 2 to 3 hours, a few days before the dinner (2 positions available) This team buys groceries at Costco and Safeway in advance of food preparation. We make it easy by giving you a standard shopping list with item names and quantities. Deliver the groceries to the CLC kitchen before Wednesday at 3:00 PM.

Transport food & set up tables

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM on the day of the dinner (2 positions available) Meet at Prince of Peace’s CLC kitchen to transport prepared food to the Merlo Station High School cafeteria, 1841 Southwest Merlo Drive, Beaverton, OR 97006. This team must have at least one vehicle large enough to haul multiple trays of food and equipment.

Coordinate on-site serving teamP1010134

5:15 PM – 8:15 PM on the day of the dinner (1 position available) Coordinate our serving team while on-site at the cafeteria.

Store equipment after use

8:15 PM – 9:00 PM on the day of the dinner (2 positions available) After the dinner, transport supplies and unused food from the cafeteria to the CLC kitchen and put it away. Since all equipment is pre-washed at the cafeteria when dinner complete, this team does not have to deal with dirty supplies!
