CAROL KLUTH (School Director) Carol grew up in the Midwest and spent 25 years in Texas before moving to Oregon several years ago. She and her husband David (a Lutheran pastor and a dean at Concordia University) have two grown children and two grandchildren. Prior to moving to Oregon, Carol taught second and third graders and was principal of her school in Austin. During her career she has helped to establish several preschools, taught preschool 3’s through grade six and served as child care director and principal. She also was an adjunct instructor at Concordia University Texas (Austin) in the College of Education. Carol holds a Master’s Degree in Education and is a reading specialist. During free time she and her husband enjoy hiking and spending time in the mountains and at the beach. “I feel blessed to be a part of Prince of Peace School and to work with such talented teachers.”

JENNY BERNICK (Pre-Kindergarten+ Teacher) Jenny was born and raised in London, England. She is married to Ted, who is a pastor at another local church. They have three children, all of whom attended POP. Jenny graduated from Oregon State University and she loves to cook, entertain and travel. “Kids are fantastic,” she says, “I love being around them. This job is a privilege and a blessing. I enjoy being the kindergarten music teacher and teaching PreK. I want to teach each child they they are exceptionally loved by Jesus.”

ALI CAPONETTE (Kindergarten Teacher) Ali grew up in the small town of Shawano,WI and admits to being a big Green Bay Packer Fan. She graduated from Concordia University, St. Paul, MN, with a degree in elementary education. Ali is the middle child of two wonderful brothers, and is blessed to have great parents. She loves to play volleyball, softball, go on hikes, and camp. Ali also enjoys different kinds of crafts. “I am excited to be at Prince of Peace this year and look forward to a year packed with learning and fun.”

ANITHA CHANDRAN (Kindergarten Aide) Anitha grew up in India, graduating from Madras University in Chennai, India. Anitha and her husband, Sundar, have two wonderful children. She has worked at Prince of Peace for 10 years as a teacher’s assistant. She loves the outdoors and enjoys traveling, going to the coast, reading and listening to music. She “enjoys working with children and being part of their social and academic lives.”

KATHY CRIDER (Kindergarten Teacher) Kathy grew up in Southern California, has lived in Las Vegas, but loves the northwest. Kathy and husband Mike have 4 adult sons. Their five grandchildren bring them much joy. Playing cards and games with family and friends, camping and going to the coast are activities Kathy enjoys outside the classroom. She is also involved in the music ministry at her church. “It is a blessing and a privilege to teach. I love telling them about Jesus, and to see them get excited with each accomplishments.”

KIM GOUDY (Pre-Kindergarten 3-Day Teacher) Kim was born in the Midwest, but has called Oregon home for the past 37 years. Teaching runs in her family, both of Kim’s parents were teachers. Kim and Paul have two adult children. Kim liberally shares her musical talent, teaching the 4’s music and she also participates in the hand bell choir at Prince of Peace. In the early morning you will find her walking; traveling, reading, gardening, cooking and playing piano are activities she enjoys. “I have a passion for teaching young children about the world we live in and the love of God. I love to engage young children through music, crafts and stories.”

KELLY HANSEN (Pre-Kindergarten 4-Day Teacher) Kelly grew up in Half Moon Bay, a small beach town in Northern California. After attending Oregon State University she moved back to California and began her career helping individuals with disabilities achieve self-sufficiency with dignity. Kelly married her husband, Trent, and they have two children. She and her family relocated back to Oregon 10 years ago and are happy to call Portland home. Both of her children attended Prince of Peace School when they were young. She spends most of her free time watching and cheering on her own children in sports and dance acitivities. In her free time she loves to be with friends, watch a good movie and travel.

TISH HULL (Spanish Teacher) Tish is an Oregon transplant, moving here from California. Tish and Jeff have two adult children. Tish likes to play bunco, read and cook. Prince of Peace is blessed by Tish’s ability to teach Spanish in the Kindergarten. “I enjoy coming to work every day, and seeing the children’s smiling faces. I love hearing the excitement in their voices as they learn and discover something new. I love to see the children’s pride and confidence in their accomplishments.”

KAITLYN JOHNSON (Kindergarten Teacher) Kaitlyn is from the Seattle area and moved to Oregon to attend college at Concordia University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early and Elementary Education and her teaching license. After graduation, she moved to the Portland area full time with her husband and cat (her fur-baby). Since graduating, she has worked for a couple of years as a preschool teacher through Head Start and at a school based after school and summer camp program for kids ages 5-11. “I absolutely love working with children and am thrilled to get to know you and your student this year! I am looking forward to a fun year with great learning adventures!”

NANCY LYDON (Pre-Kindergarten 3-Day  & 3’s Teacher) Nancy is an “Army brat” living in many places growing up. She has lived in Oregon for 27 years. Nancy and her husband, Tim, have been married 34 years and have two adult daughters and 1 1/2-year-old granddaughter. Their youngest daughter attended preschool at Prince of Peace (3’s and 4’s) 20 years ago and Nancy started teaching at POP after that. She and her family love to go camping and hiking. In her spare time she likes to spend it with friends and family and plays in the handbell choir at Prince of Peace. “I love teaching children about Jesus and how much He loves them. It’s a very rewarding job.”

PATTY MANNING (Pre-Kindergarten 4-Day Teacher) Patty was born and raised in Portland. Patty and Neil’s family include four children. All of their children attended Prince of Peace Pre-school. Outdoor activities that Patty enjoys are gardening, camping, boating and fishing with the family. “I love teaching the 4’s program and I love the chance to be a child’s first teacher, providing opportunity for discovery and growth. It’s a lot of fun.”

RONA NILES (Pre-Kindergarten 4-Day Teacher) Rona was born in the Philippians but has lived in many different countries including Singapore, Hong Kong and Canada. She eventually made her way to the United States, attending college at the University of San Diego in California. After receiving her credential in Elementary Education, she went on to teach First Grade at a Catholic school in Orange County. In 2009, Rona, her husband Jason, and her two young daughters moved to Portland, Oregon. She enjoys supporting her children in their activities, spending time with friends, reading, trying new restaurants, and traveling. Rona is looking forward to sharing her love of learning with her students and building a classroom community based on kindness and mutual respect.

MICHELLE SHIPLEY (Pre-Kindergarten 3’s Teacher) Michelle was born and raised in Olympia, Washington. She graduated from George Fox University with a degree in Elementary Education. Michelle is married and has three children, all of whom attended Prince of Peace School. Michelle keeps busy being involved in her church, community and in her kids’ schools. You can find her on the field or gym watching her kids play sports. Michelle loves to entertain and enjoys adventures with family and friends. She is excited to be at Prince of Peace this year and be able to teach young children about how much God loves them.

SUSAN STURM (Financial Administrator & Office Manager) Susan has lived in Beaverton, Oregon, for over 40 years. She and her husband, Steve, have one grown-up son who lives in Portland. Some of her favorite pastimes are hiking, going to the beach, reading, getting together with family and friends and playing Bunco and Pinochle. Susan loves her position as administrative assistant for POP School. She especially enjoys getting to know the parents and the children and feels very blessed to have a job that she loves!

JODY THURSTON (Kindergarten Art Teacher) Jody and her husband George, have 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren.  Coming from Indiana but having lived in Oregon for 30+ years, they consider themselves almost natives. Jody has been with POP school for over 20 years in a variety of teaching positions. After retiring once, she returned to teach art to our kindergarten class. “I truly enjoy helping children get in touch with their God given creativity. They also learn how various famous artists have expressed their creativity.” Her other interests are teaching Sunday School, worship, music ministry at POP and leadership in the community Bible Study.

LAURIE WEIDE (Pre-Kindergarten 3’s Teacher) Laurie and her family moved to Portland from Arizona in 1996, where she worked as a court reporter for 12 years. Laurie’s husband works for Intel, and her daughter is a student at the University Of Oregon. Laurie is a life-long Seahawks fan having grown up in Renton, Washington. She also loves spending time with her three cats and Mini Schnauzer. She enjoys sewing, baking and going to the movies. “Teaching is my passion, and I love to find new ways and use new ideas to teach each child in my classes. I enjoy watching the children in my classes grow throughout the school year with me.” Laurie holds an Early Childhood Teaching Credential from ChildCare Education Institute.
